Giant hepatocellular adenoma as cause of severe abdominal pain: a case report

Abstract The authors describe the case of a large hepatocellular adenoma diagnosed in a 30-year old woman who came to us complaining of acute pain in the upper abdominal quadrants. The patient had been taking an oral contraceptive pill for the last ten years. We present the clinical features, the diagnostic work-up and the treatment prescribed.

Splenic hemangiomas: contrast-enhanced sonographic findings

Objectives The purpose of this study was to illustrate the baseline appearance and enhancement patterns of splenic hemangiomas on contrast-enhanced sonography. Methods Two experienced radiologists retrospectively reviewed by consensus baseline and contrast-enhanced sonographic examinations of 27 patients (14 women and 13 men; mean age, 58.7 years) with 27 splenic hemangiomas (mean size, 2 cm) confirmed by splenectomy, biopsy, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging and follow-up. Automatic Processing Scheme for Low Laser Invasiveness Electro Optical Frequency Mapping mode

International audience; Electro optical techniques are efficient backside contactless techniques usually used for design debug and defect location in modern VLSI. Unfortunately, the signal to noise ratio is quite low and depends on laser power with potential device stress due to long acquisition time or high laser power, especially in up to date technologies. Under these conditions, to maintain a good signal or image quality, specific signal or image processing techniques can be implemented. In this paper, we proposed a new spatial filtering by stationary wavelets and contrast enhancement which allows the use of low laser power and short acquisition time in image mode.

Janus Micelles Induced by Olefin Metathesis

A facile one-step procedure for hydrophobic modification and simultaneous TEM contrast enhancement via a regioselective olefin metathesis reaction using Grubbs' catalyst is presented. Polyether diblock copolymers were investigated, and both the chain ends of the hydrophilic and the hydrophobic block were hydrophobically modified. Modification of the hydrophilic block results in nonsymmetric supramolecular structures (Janus micelles) which self-assemble into larger hierarchically organized super-micelles.

Malignant fibrous histiozytoma (MHF) is a pleomorphic sarcoma of ubiquituous origin. The clinical and radiological features of the tumor are illustrated by 23 patients with MFH of soft tissue and 4 MFH of bone. On conventional radiography MFH appears as a soft tissue tumor, sometimes with bone involvement; on sonography it is usually non-homogeneous and hypoechogenic with areas of necrosis. On CT the masses are homogeneous or inhomogeneous (10-60 HU.) containing areas of decreased density. Contrast enhancement was about 10-20 HU. Evaluation of intraindividual contrast enhancement variability for determining the maximum achievable consistency in CT

The purpose of this study was to quantify temporal variability in vascular and parenchymal enhancement within the same patient and to determine technique-related factors contributing to this variability. MATERIALS AND METHODS. We identified 100 patients who underwent four CT scans within 12 months with identical acquisition and contrast injection parameters. DNP in MRI: an in-bore approach at 1.5 T.

Abstract We have used liquid state (“Overhauser”) Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) to significantly enhance the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). For the first time this was achieved by hyperpolarizing directly in the MRI-scanner field of 1.5 T in continuous flow mode and immediately delivering the hyperpolarized substance to the imaging site to ensure maximum contrast between hyperpolarized sample and sample at thermal polarization. We achieve a maximum absolute signal enhancement factor of 98; while the hyperpolarized sample is transported at a flow rate of up to 30 ml/h yielding an average flow speed up to 470 mm/s over a distance of approximately 80 mm. …
